Wine : Red

Wine is made from the fermentation of one or more varieties of fruit, usually grapes. Wine has a long history that dates back about 7500 – 8000 years and is thought to have originated in Iran, Armenia and Georgia. Some 2000 years later, wine appeared in Europe. Wine is produced by fermenting crushed grapes with Yeast that consumes the sugars found in grapes and converts it to alcohol. Throughout the world, wine is an important beverage that accompanies social activity, cuisine and lifestyle. Some wines are to be enjoyed as soon as the bottle is opened and others, mainly younger wines are to be enjoyed after a period of ‘aeration’. This aeration allows often ‘relaxes’ the flavours and makes them taste smoother. When older wines are left to breathe, they often lose their character and flavour intensity. Generally speaking, wine should be tasted after opening to determine whether or not it should be left to breathe.
